Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions families ask us most. Don't see yours? Text or call us at 310-905-5807 or email office@themusikbox.org.

Is the first lesson really free?

Yes. Your first private lesson is a free trial lesson. It's a chance to meet a teacher, try a real lesson, and make sure it's a good fit before you commit. Trial lessons are usually scheduled with the teacher who would keep teaching you, at a time that could become your regular weekly lesson time. Book a free trial lesson.

What ages do you teach?

All ages, from 4 to 104. Private piano and voice lessons are for kids, teens and adults. For the youngest musicians, our Musikgarten classes are for babies (newborn–15 months), toddlers (15 months–3.5 years) and preschoolers (3.5–4.5 years).

Do adult beginners take lessons?

Yes. Adults take both piano and voice with us, including complete beginners. Lessons are private and paced to you.

How long are lessons?

Private lessons are once a week at the same time each week. Lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

How does the Studio Plan tuition work?

The Studio Plan is our most popular option: one private lesson a week at a regular time, for a flat monthly tuition fee. It includes participation in our annual recital, and we offer special family discounts when more than one family member studies with us. Billing is automatic. See Lesson Rates.

Can we reschedule or make up a missed lesson?

Please let the office know ahead of time if you need to cancel a lesson. Make-up lessons for canceled lessons are free when the studio calendar has space, and they don't carry over past the month. There are no make-ups for a no-show, and because the Studio Plan is monthly tuition, missed lessons aren't refunded or credited. Full details are in our Studio Plan Policies.

Do you teach in our home?

Yes. We offer in-home lessons in all Westside neighborhoods, including Mar Vista, Del Rey, Venice, Culver City, Playa Vista and Marina del Rey. Text or call us at 310-905-5807 to set them up.

What styles do you teach?

Piano students can study classical, contemporary and pop, and jazz. Voice students can study pop, musical theater, classical, jazz and more, with a focus on healthy technique and confidence. We also teach songwriting: melody, harmony, lyrics and creating original songs.

Who are the teachers?

Our teachers are degreed musicians and working professional performers who love teaching. Meet our teachers.

Do students perform?

Yes. Every year our students perform in the Autumn Recital Series. In 2026 it's on Saturday, November 14, at Culver City Presbyterian Church, 11269 Washington Blvd, Culver City. Admission is free and family and friends are welcome. Recital details.

What are your hours?

Monday – Thursday: 9am – 9pm
Friday – Sunday: 9am – 6pm

Where are you?
